{"id":2821,"date":"2009-01-29T20:14:06","date_gmt":"2009-01-29T19:14:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/noexpert.co.uk\/?p=2821"},"modified":"2021-10-30T16:44:19","modified_gmt":"2021-10-30T15:44:19","slug":"where-to-eat-and-drink-in-londons-west-end-tourist-central","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.noexpert.co.uk\/food\/?p=2821","title":{"rendered":"Eating and Drinking Guide (London&#8217;s West End : Tourist Central!)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The West End technically covers:-<\/p>\n<p>Bloomsbury, Covent Garden, Fitzrovia, Holborn, Marylebone, Mayfair, Seven Dials, Soho, St James and <a title=\"Where to eat in Westminster\" href=\"https:\/\/www.noexpert.co.uk\/food\/?p=504\" target=\"_self\">Westminster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That\u00a0is a pretty large area, so I am going to focus on the centre of the West End or Tourist Central, i.e., places around\u00a0Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus. This is mainly because finding a decent restaurant\u00a0or bar\u00a0in this area is a bit like finding a needle in a\u00a0haystack.<\/p>\n<p>So here are recommendations, in no particular order.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Thai Square, Trafalgar Square\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thaisquare.net\/#restaurants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thai Square<\/a>, Trafalgar Square &#8211; it&#8217;s not the best Thai restaurant in London by any means, but it\u00a0is part of a reliable chain. (It has recently won an award to say it is the best &#8211; so judge for yourself).\u00a0 It is also a good location for larger groups.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Web site - The Portrait\" href=\"http:\/\/www.searcys.co.uk\/nationalportraitgallery\/101\/restaurant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Portrait Restaurant, in the National Portrait Gallery<\/a> &#8211; reliable food, good for an inexpensive &#8220;Afternoon Tea&#8221;, great views over Trafalgar Square. Can get very busy at peak times, so I would also recommend reserving a table here\u00a0via their website.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Asia de Cuba\" href=\"http:\/\/asiadecuba.com\/london\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Asia de Cuba<\/a>,\u00a0\u00a0St Martins Lane Hotel &#8211; Very stylish and expensive venue, food is specifically designed for sharing, so ideal for groups of 4 or more.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"The Mint Leaf\" href=\"https:\/\/www.noexpert.co.uk\/food\/?p=1290 \" target=\"_self\">The Mint Leaf<\/a>, Piccadilly &#8211; a stylish, Modern Indian Restaurant and Bar. Good Pre Theatre venue.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"5th View\" href=\"https:\/\/www.noexpert.co.uk\/food\/?p=3072\" target=\"_self\">5th View Bar &amp; Food<\/a>,\u00a0Waterstones, Piccadilly\u00a0&#8211; For a book store cafe, this place is great, it does good reasonably priced cocktails and the food is way better that you would expect (limited choice though). Nice selection of cakes &#8211; the carrot cake is particularly good.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"The Wolseley\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thewolseley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Wolseley<\/a>, Piccadilly &#8211; European Style Brasserie, very popular, stunning room &#8211; great for people watching if you can get a table.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Atheneaum Hotel\" href=\"http:\/\/www.athenaeumhotel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Atheneaum Hotel<\/a>, Piccadilly &#8211;\u00a0 The restaurant focuses on British style food.
