This year we managed to get a booking for a special dinner at <a title=\"The Providores\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theprovidores.co.uk\/news\/news_2011.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Providores<\/a> where for Chocolate Week 2011, <a title=\"Peter Gordon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theprovidores.co.uk\/aboutus\/Peter_Gordon.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peter Gordon<\/a> (often called Europe&#8217;s father of fusion cuisine) and innovative chocolatier <a title=\"Paul A Young\" href=\"http:\/\/www.paulayoung.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul A Young<\/a> collaborated to create a 6 course menu with chocolate incorporated into each course. The food was stunning with dishes that included Roast duck, prune sauce, wild mushrooms, porcini powder and broad beans with Honduras Indio Rojo, and Smoked eel, saut\u00e9ed salsify, toasted sourdough crumbs and date chipotle chilli puree with Mangaro chocolate. The smoked eel in particular was a real winner and was matched with a smooth <a title=\"2007 Richardsons Pinot Noir \" href=\"http:\/\/www.wineanorak.com\/wineblog\/new-zealand\/michelle-richardsons-central-otago-pinot-noir\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2007 Richardson Pinot Noir<\/a>.\u00a0 Then just when I thought it could not get any better, that dish was eclipsed by the surprising light beef cheeks with roast carmelised quince and smoked chickpea panizza.\u00a0 The matching New Zealand wines were top notch.\u00a0 As was the <a title=\"Quinta Do Noval\" href=\"http:\/\/www.quintadonoval.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Quinta do Noval Port<\/a> from Douro that accompanied the Tart of malted Virunga chocolate and sea salted caramel, buffalo ice cream and sesame praline.<\/p>\n<p>This was my first visit to The Providores and it will most definitely not be my last.<\/p>\n<p>Marks out of 10<\/p>\n<p>Food 7.8<\/p>\n<p>Service 7<\/p>\n<p>Ambience 7.8<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a title=\"Top page - Noexpert.co.uk\" href=\"https:\/\/www.noexpert.co.uk\/food\">Return to top page<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chocolate week is now an annual event that I like to make the most of.
